Nuru massage in Amsterdam before a morning you can waste
Nuru uses a thick, odourless gel rather than oil, and the session is given with body weight and slide rather than with pressure. It is a poor fit on the wrong night and a very good one on the right night, and on a working trip that distinction is the only thing worth planning around. What it asks for is a surface it can be given on and a shower afterwards that both of you are willing to use, which adds something in the order of half an hour to the far end of the evening. On the night before a free morning, or on the added weekend, that is nothing. On the night before a client presentation at half past eight, it is the difference between a good decision and a tired one. Ninety minutes suits it better than sixty, because the rinse should not be a sprint. The therapist decides what her session includes and says where her limits are before it starts.
Origins
Nuru came out of Kawasaki in Japan in the nineteen seventies and the name is simply the Japanese word for slippery. The gel is made from nori seaweed extract and is colourless, odourless and water-soluble, which is what makes the whole thing practical. It reached European practice in the late two thousands and spread quickly through outcall work precisely because the gel travels: a litre in a bag and a mat under one arm is the entire equipment list.
The technique
She works from above and alongside rather than from a fixed position, using her whole body length to carry the slide, and the pressure is created by how she lets her weight settle rather than by pushing. Warmth is managed continuously, because gel at body temperature is the format and gel at room temperature is an unpleasant approximation of it. Between sections she re-warms rather than reapplies cold. The mat matters as much as the technique: a bed absorbs the slide and turns the session into ordinary oil work with more cleaning up.
What to expect
She arrives with the gel and with a mat, because a bed alone is not the right surface for it and hotel linen and nuru gel are a poor combination. Setting up takes longer than any other format here, perhaps ten minutes, and the room warms first because the gel is warmed to body temperature and a cold room undoes that immediately. The work itself is full-body slide with her weight distributed along you rather than pushed into you, and the sensation is broad, warm and continuous. Afterwards the gel rinses off with water alone and leaves nothing behind. With a therapist each, two mats are needed, so say so early: a standard room may not have the floor for it.
Who it suits
The evening before a free morning. The added Saturday. Couples who have done the oil formats and want the version with more of it. A room with a shower the two of you are happy to stand in, which is a genuine consideration in older central buildings. It is not the booking for the night before an early meeting, and anyone who tells you otherwise has not done the arithmetic.
Benefits
Nothing else on this list produces the same amount of continuous warm contact, and for a couple who have been in separate rooms all week that is the appeal. It is also the format people remember in detail afterwards, which is why it tends to get booked on the evening a trip is meant to be built around rather than on the one it happens to have free.
Length
Ninety minutes at 540 euros for two of you sharing one therapist is the shortest length that works properly, because the setting up and the rinse both take real time. Two hours at 720 euros is the version with room in it. Sixty minutes is possible and turns into a rushed evening, which is not what the format is for.

Questions
How much time does the shower afterwards actually add?
Budget half an hour from the end of the session to the point where both of you are dry and the bathroom is usable again. It rinses off with water alone, so it is quick per person, but two people and one bathroom is the real constraint rather than the gel.
Our room is small. Is there space for a mat?
Often yes, and it is worth checking before the evening is agreed. A mat needs roughly the footprint of a single bed on clear floor. If the room cannot give that, say so in the thread and the reply will tell you what is workable in that space instead.
Will the gel ruin anything in the room?
It is water-soluble and comes off surfaces with water, which is why the mat exists: it keeps the gel off the bedding rather than protecting the gel. Nothing is left behind and nothing stains. The one thing to avoid is doing it on the bed itself.
Can we book nuru with a therapist each?
Yes, at 720 euros an hour, and it wants plenty of notice, because two mats and the floor space for both are a larger ask than a single session. Ask early in the week rather than on the day, and say in the first message how large the room is.
